Hi.
I am having a small problem with the jaws demo 14 and i don't know if it is a change from freedom scientific or if it is something wrong with my computer.
My computer is a laptop running windows 7 64 bit.
The problem is that the count down for the 40 minutes starts from the time i turn my laptop on no matter if i run jaws or not. So if i attempt to run jaws for example an hour after my computer was swiched on i get the message that the 40 minute mode is expired.
On my old laptop running windows xp and jaws 13 the 40 minute count always started from the time i run jaws not from the time my computer was swiched on.
If this is a change from freedom scientific's part then i could install jaws 13 but if this is not how the demo was suppose to work then i would like some help of how to solve this problem.
Thanks
Nikos
It's how it works. Want to use Jaws, you've got to start fresh.
I dont think it should work that way.
It definitely doesn't work that way. You should be able to install a demo of Jaws 14 without uninstalling Jaws13.. FS has flash drive versions of the demo you could try. Visit www.freedomscientific.com
Your demo could be expired?
They aren't supposed to ever do this but I have had this issue.
Also, I have had a problem with mirror drivers. Sometimes, this message comes up.
Tha'ts not his problem nathon, his problem is that if he starts jaws 14 say an hour after he boots the puter, it wont work saying his 40 minute demo timed out.
If he starts it when he boots the puter, it works fine.
Oh, woops, I misinterpreted. Yes, this is the way it is.
Sorry. I use a computer all the time with a demo at a friends house when I visit and am just doing maintaining stuff on it for her. It is how it works.
I have to restart the computer when I sit down. After that I'm good for 40 minutes.
Yeh I noticed that one too; It's kinda inconvenient but ah well; guess it makes sense to FS. :)
it probably still works the same under xp, but under 7 the auth process is slightly different. Also, since jaws doesn't run as a service in 7 I'd suspect that could have something to do with the need to count the demonstration from the moment windows is loaded.
Why doesn't it run as a service under 7?
what about Windows 8?
Windows 7 and 8 have controls to keep pirate software from being run. I would suspect Freedom Scientific has used this to keep people from turning the demo software in to a full version.
When you add the key, then your programs are services.
Thanks all for the replies.
Just obtain NVDA, since it is very similar to Jaws and put it on a flash drive.
Nathan.
That way, you don't have to worry about the demonstration stuff.
Hi Nathan.
I am using nvda all the time. I just wanted to have a demo of jaws around in kace i need it for example if nvda doesn't read something. But unfortunately the demo limitations under windows 7 seam worst than windows xp.
